Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about browser-based voice recognition.
Which browsers support speech to text?
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have the best support for the Web Speech API, including continuous dictation and interim results. Safari on macOS/iOS supports it with some limitations. Firefox does not currently support the Web Speech API. Use Chrome for the best experience.
Is my voice data uploaded anywhere?
In Chrome and Edge, the Web Speech API sends audio to Google's servers for processing — this is handled by the browser itself, not by PixConvert. No audio data is sent to PixConvert servers. If privacy is a concern, consider using an offline transcription tool.
Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require explicit user permission before any website can access your microphone. This is a browser security feature — you can grant or deny it and change the setting at any time in your browser's site settings.
How accurate is the transcription?
Accuracy depends on the language, your microphone quality, and background noise. For English with a clear microphone in a quiet room, accuracy is typically high. Speaking at a normal pace and pronouncing words clearly improves results significantly.
Can I use this offline?
Chrome and Edge use Google's servers for speech processing, so an internet connection is required. Some browsers may offer offline speech models in the future, but currently the Web Speech API requires connectivity for best results.
