How do I cut an MP3 file online?
Drop the MP3 on this page, then drag the handles on the waveform or type the start and end times. Press Trim Audio and then Download. You get a new MP3 named after the song with the cut points added, like song-trim-12s-42s.mp3.
Does cutting an MP3 lower its bitrate?
No. With Output Format on Same as input, the MP3 frames are copied as they are, so a 128, 192 or 320 kbps song keeps its bitrate. We checked this with 192 and 320 kbps files. Changing the format or adding a fade makes the cutter re-encode the audio.
How do I cut an MP3 for a ringtone?
Play the song, press [ where the part you want begins and ] where it ends, and check the Selected box. Around 20 to 30 seconds works well. Press Trim Audio, download the MP3 and pick it in your phone's sound settings. iPhones need M4R files, which this tool can't make.
Why is my cut MP3 slightly shorter or longer than I set?
MP3 audio is stored in small frames of about 26 milliseconds, and a cut without re-encoding has to use whole frames. The clip can be up to about a tenth of a second off. If you need an exact length, set Output Format to WAV instead.
Can the MP3 cutter open other audio files?
Yes. The cutter opens any audio file, including WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, OGG and Opus, and saves it in the same format unless you pick another. The Audio Trimmer page covers those formats in more detail.
Can I convert a WAV or M4A to MP3 while cutting it?
Yes. Open the file, set Output Format to MP3 and press Trim Audio. The clip is saved as a high quality MP3 with a variable bitrate. To change a whole file to MP3 without cutting it, the Audio Converter is quicker.
Can I join MP3 files after cutting them?
Not in the cutter, which saves one clip per trim. Download each clip you need, then open the Audio Merger to put them together in any order. This is also how you remove a middle section: cut the part before it and the part after it, then merge the two.
Can I cut an MP3 from a YouTube link?
No. The cutter only opens files saved on your device and can't download audio from YouTube or any other website. If you have a video file of your own, turn it into an MP3 with the Video to MP3 tool first, then cut it here.
