How do I split a PDF into separate pages?

Add your PDF, leave the mode on Extract all pages and click Split PDF. Every page becomes its own PDF file. Save the pages one at a time, or click Download All (ZIP) to get them together in one ZIP file.

How do I extract specific pages from a PDF?

Choose Custom page range and type the page numbers, for example 2, 4-6. Click Split PDF and each of those pages is saved as a separate file. Pages you don't list are left out.

What page range format should I use?

Use commas between items and a hyphen for a run of pages, like 1-3, 5, 7-9. Don't put spaces inside a range, such as 1 - 3. Numbers must be between 1 and the page count, and ranges must count upward.

Can I save a page range as one PDF instead of separate files?

Not in one step. The splitter saves every chosen page as its own PDF, even in Custom page range mode. To get pages 3 to 5 in one file, split them out, then join the three files with the PDF Merger.

How are the split PDF files named?

Each file keeps the original name plus its page number, so page 3 of report.pdf becomes report-page-3.pdf. The number always matches the page in the original document. A ZIP download is named report-split.zip.

Does splitting a PDF reduce quality or change the pages?

No. Each page is copied into its new file as it is, not turned into an image, so it looks the same and its text stays selectable. Web links still work, but bookmarks aren't kept and links that jump to other pages stop working.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. A locked or print-restricted PDF splits into blank or unreadable pages, even after you enter the password. Take the password off first with our PDF password remover, which asks for the open password when there is one, then split that copy.

Why does it say my page range is invalid?

Usually one number is outside the document, a range runs backwards like 5-3, or there are spaces inside a range. Only digits, commas and hyphens work. Check the page count shown at the top and type the range again.

How big a PDF can I split?
