HEIC to JPG — Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about converting iPhone HEIC photos to JPEG.
Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC instead of JPG?
Apple introduced HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) in iOS 11 as the default camera format. HEIC images are roughly half the size of JPEG at equivalent quality, so your iPhone can store twice as many photos. You can change this in Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible to shoot in JPEG instead.
Will the converted JPG look the same as the original HEIC photo?
At high quality settings (85–95%), the converted JPEG is visually indistinguishable from the HEIC original for typical viewing. Some very subtle HDR highlight detail may be slightly different due to JPEG's more limited color gamut, but for everyday sharing and printing the quality is excellent.
Is it safe to convert my personal photos here?
Yes — your photos never leave your device. All conversion processing happens entirely within your browser tab using WebAssembly technology. We have no access to your images, and nothing is sent to or stored on our servers.
How do I get my HEIC files from my iPhone to my computer?
Connect your iPhone with a USB cable and copy the files via Windows Explorer or macOS Finder. Alternatively, share files via AirDrop (Mac), email them to yourself, or use iCloud Drive. On Windows, you may need to tell iTunes or the Photos app to keep the original HEIC format during import.
Can I convert HEIC photos taken in Portrait Mode or with Live Photo?
Yes. Portrait Mode HEIC files convert to standard JPEG without the depth map (which JPEG cannot store). Live Photos are still images paired with a video — our converter processes the still image component and outputs it as JPEG. The video portion is not included in the output.
Why does Windows say it can't open my HEIC file?
Windows does not include a HEIC decoder by default. Microsoft offers a paid HEIF Image Extension in the Microsoft Store, but our free converter is the fastest solution — no purchase, no install, just upload and download your JPG.
