How do I convert PSD to PNG for free?

Does PSD to PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes, when the design has no visible Background layer. Clear areas stay clear, and soft shadows or glows keep their partial transparency; in our tests the PNG's alpha matched Photoshop's saved image exactly. The converter never fills PNG output with white, except with Resize set to Pad.

Why does my PNG have a white background instead of a clear one?

Most likely your PSD has a filled Background layer that was showing at your last save, and the converter uses the design as saved. Hide or delete that layer, save the PSD again and reconvert. Two rarer causes: Resize set to Pad whitens clear areas for now, and a PSD saved with Maximize Compatibility off can come out blank white.

Does converting PSD to PNG keep the layers?

No. PNG holds one flat picture: layers visible at your last save are merged, hidden ones are left out, and text shows as saved without the fonts installed. That relies on the merged copy Photoshop stores. Files saved with Maximize Compatibility off get rebuilt from their layers, so effects can drop out. One PNG per layer isn't offered.

Can I convert PSD to PNG without losing quality?

Yes, for normal 8-bit RGB files the PNG has exactly the pixels of Photoshop's saved image. Some files change: 16-bit and 32-bit PSDs become 8-bit PNGs, and CMYK files switch to RGB, so colors can shift. To keep a color profile and DPI, turn off Strip metadata.

Which Compression level should I use for PSD to PNG?

Keep the default of 90 for the smallest PNG. In our test on a computer, a 7.61 MB layered PSD became a 1.86 MB PNG at 90 in about 8 seconds, or 2.04 MB at 50 in under 1 second. Pixels are identical at every level, but very low values make huge files.

Why is PSD to PNG slower than PSD to JPG?

Lossless PNG packing takes more work, most of all at the default Compression of 90. In our test on a computer, a 5376 by 3072 pixel PSD took about 34 seconds as PNG and about 2 as JPG. Setting Compression to 50 cut the PNG to about 3 seconds.

Is PNG or JPG better for Photoshop designs?

Pick PNG for logos, icons, text-heavy graphics and anything with a see-through background. Pick JPG for photos you want small: our 43.61 MB layered PSD became a 7.67 MB PNG but a 1.42 MB JPG. The PSD to JPG converter has JPG preselected for that.

Can I batch convert PSD to PNG?

Yes, and there's no cap on how many. Add every PSD in one go, each up to 100 MB, and press Convert All; files are processed in turn. Download All bundles the PNGs into pixconvert-batch.zip. Files added later through Add More Files default to JPG, so set those back to PNG.

Why won't my PSD convert to PNG?

Check the file type first. This page takes .psd files up to 100 MB, so .psb files belong on our PSD converter page, and Bitmap or Indexed Color PSDs can't be read yet. For any other failed tile, press its retry button.

Is it safe to convert PSD files to PNG here?

Yes. Your PSD is read by a worker running inside this browser tab and is never sent to our servers. On first use the page downloads its image engine, about 14 MB, from our own site. Analytics count page views and editor time, not files or file names.
