PixConvert

Shrink BMP Files to Compact JPGs

Convert massive uncompressed BMP bitmaps to web-friendly JPG images instantly. Cut file sizes by up to 95% — all processed privately in your browser.

BMP to JPG Conversion Features

Replace bulky uncompressed bitmaps with efficient, universally compatible JPEG images

Smart Compression for Bitmap Data

BMP files store raw pixel data with no compression, making them enormous. JPEG compression reduces the same image to a fraction of the size while preserving visual quality.

Instant In-Browser Processing

No waiting for server uploads. Large BMP files are decoded and compressed to JPG locally, so conversion is fast even on slow internet connections.

Universal JPEG Support

The resulting JPG is supported by every device, OS, browser, and image viewer on the planet — far more portable than the BMP format.

BMP to JPG Conversion FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about converting BMP bitmaps to JPEG

Why are BMP files so large compared to JPG?

BMP (Bitmap) stores every pixel as raw colour data with no compression whatsoever. A 1920×1080 BMP image occupies about 6 MB. The same image as a JPG at 85% quality is typically under 400 KB because JPEG applies lossy compression that discards imperceptible visual information.

Will my image look noticeably different after converting from BMP to JPG?

At quality settings of 85% or higher, the visual difference between a BMP and its JPG equivalent is indistinguishable to the human eye. Only at very low quality settings (below 50%) will artefacts become visible. For most sharing and web use, 80–90% quality is the sweet spot.

Does BMP support transparency, and will that carry over to JPG?

Standard BMP files do not support transparency, so this is generally not a concern when converting to JPG. Both formats are opaque. If your BMP was created with an alpha channel (a non-standard extension), those pixels will be filled with white in the JPG output.

Can I convert multiple BMP files to JPG at once?

Yes. The converter supports batch conversion — you can add multiple BMP files at once and they will all be converted to JPG using your chosen quality settings, then downloaded together.

Is BMP to JPG conversion suitable for scanned documents?

Yes, and it is highly recommended. Scanners often save BMP files by default. Converting those scans to JPG (at 90%+ quality) makes them far easier to email, archive, and upload to document management systems without any meaningful quality loss.

Is it safe to convert my BMP files using this tool?

Completely safe. All conversion happens in your browser — your BMP files are never sent to any server. The tool uses browser-native Canvas APIs to decode and re-encode the image entirely on your device.
