Convert HEIF Images to JPG — Works Everywhere

HEIF files are modern but not universally supported. Convert to JPG and open your images on any device, app, or platform — no codec packs required.

What Makes Our HEIF to JPG Tool Reliable?

HEIF is a container format with nuances — our converter handles them all so you don't have to.

Color Profile Respected

HEIF images can contain wide-gamut color profiles. Our converter correctly interprets the embedded ICC profile and maps colors accurately to the JPEG output.

Completely Private Conversion

HEIF files — often containing personal or professional photos — are processed entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any server at any point.

Handles Multiple HEIF Variants

HEIF is a container that can wrap HEVC (H.265), AVC, or AV1 encoded images. Our decoder supports the most common variants found in consumer cameras and devices.

Who Needs HEIF to JPG Conversion?

Camera & Device Users

  • Converting HEIF photos from newer Sony, Canon, or Nikon cameras that save in HEIF
  • Opening HEIF images transferred from a modern Android device to a Windows PC
  • Converting HEIF captures from drones or action cameras for standard editing

IT & Business Workflows

  • Converting HEIF attachments received via email to JPEG before storing in a CMS
  • Preparing HEIF images from field staff's devices for inclusion in business reports
  • Bulk converting a batch of HEIF photos for upload to a company SharePoint library

Photo Archivists

  • Converting HEIF files to JPEG for long-term archival in more established formats
  • Preparing HEIF images for submission to stock photography platforms
  • Standardizing a mixed-format photo collection to JPEG for a unified library

How to Convert HEIF to JPG

1

Upload your HEIF image file by clicking the drop zone or dragging it in. Both .heif and .heic file extensions are supported interchangeably. Drop multiple HEIF files at once to batch-convert a set of camera images, with files up to 50 MB each processed entirely in your browser.

2

Our decoder processes the HEIF container using WebAssembly, interprets the embedded ICC color profile, and generates a JPEG with accurate, well-mapped colors. Use the quality slider to set your preferred JPEG output quality — 85% or higher is recommended for professional or print use.

3

Download your JPG file instantly — fully compatible with every device, application, and platform. No codec packs or software installs needed on any end. When batch-converting multiple HEIF files, all JPEGs are bundled into a ZIP archive for convenient one-click download.

HEIF to JPG — Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers about the HEIF format and converting it to JPEG.

What is HEIF and how is it different from HEIC?

HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) is the container format standard defined by MPEG. HEIC is Apple's specific implementation of HEIF using HEVC (H.265) compression. All HEIC files are HEIF files, but not all HEIF files are HEIC — other manufacturers may use different codecs within the same HEIF container.

Why can't I open HEIF files in my photo software?

HEIF requires a licensed HEVC decoder that many applications and operating systems don't ship by default due to licensing costs. Windows 10/11 requires a paid extension from the Microsoft Store. Older versions of macOS (pre-Mojave) and most Linux distributions also lack built-in HEIF support.

Do I lose quality when converting HEIF to JPG?

HEIF images are often encoded at very high quality. Converting to JPEG at 85–95% quality produces a result that is visually indistinguishable for most uses. At lower quality settings, JPEG artifacts may become visible. We recommend using at least 85% quality for professional or print purposes.

Can this converter handle HEIF files from professional cameras?

Yes. Our decoder handles HEIF images from a wide range of sources including the latest Sony Alpha, Canon EOS R, and Nikon Z series cameras that offer HEIF capture mode. Camera manufacturers sometimes use specific HEIF profiles — if you encounter an unsupported variant, please let us know.

What happens to the EXIF data in my HEIF file?

HEIF files typically contain rich EXIF metadata including camera settings, GPS location, and timestamps. Our converter preserves this metadata in the output JPEG so your photos retain their location, date, and camera information.

Is there a difference between converting .heif and .heic file extensions?

Both .heif and .heic files are HEIF containers and are handled identically by our converter. The extension is largely cosmetic — Apple devices use .heic while some other devices use .heif. Both are processed the same way internally.
