Convert WebP to PNG — Lossless Quality Every Time

Get fully editable, lossless PNG files from any WebP image. Transparency preserved. Runs entirely in your browser — your files never go anywhere.

Why Convert WebP to PNG?

PNG is the gold standard for lossless editing and transparency — the right choice when you need to work with an image, not just display it.

Edit-Ready PNG Output

We decode your WebP at full fidelity and write a lossless PNG. No additional compression artifacts — what was in the WebP is faithfully captured in the PNG.

Instant Local Processing

WebAssembly decoding runs in your browser tab. No waiting for server responses — even large WebP files convert to PNG in under two seconds on modern hardware.

Maximum Software Compatibility

PNG opens in every image editor, design tool, and operating system. Convert from WebP to PNG once and use the result anywhere without compatibility friction.

How to Convert WebP to PNG

1

2

The tool decodes your WebP at full fidelity using WebAssembly — including any alpha transparency — and renders a lossless PNG. The preview updates instantly so you can confirm the output looks correct before downloading. No settings to adjust for WebP-to-PNG: it is always lossless.

WebP to PNG — Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers about converting WebP images to lossless PNG.

Will the PNG I get be lossless even if the original WebP was lossy?

The PNG output will be lossless — meaning no further quality loss occurs during the PNG encoding step. However, if the source WebP was lossy, the artifacts from its original compression are baked into the pixel data and will be captured faithfully in the PNG. You cannot recover detail that lossy WebP already discarded.

Does the transparent background in my WebP carry over to PNG?

Yes. Both WebP and PNG support alpha transparency, so the conversion preserves your transparent areas pixel-for-pixel. Logos, cutouts, and overlays with transparency come through cleanly.

Why is the PNG file so much larger than my WebP?

PNG uses lossless compression which stores significantly more data per pixel than WebP's efficient encoding. A lossless WebP at 300 KB could easily become a 1 MB+ PNG. This is expected — PNG prioritizes data integrity over file size.

Can I open the converted PNG in any image editor?

Yes — PNG is the most universally supported image format for editing. It opens natively in Photoshop, Lightroom, GIMP, Affinity Photo, Figma, Sketch, Preview on macOS, Paint on Windows, and virtually every other image application.

What if my WebP file is animated?

Our converter extracts the first frame of an animated WebP and saves it as a static PNG. If you need all frames from an animated WebP, consider exporting each frame individually or using a dedicated animated image tool.

Is the WebP to PNG converter free for commercial use?

Yes, entirely. There are no watermarks, no usage restrictions, and no account required. Convert as many files as you need for any purpose — personal or commercial.
