No, for normal 8-bit TIFFs the PNG has exactly the same pixels; we compared photos and scans pixel by pixel. Two cases change: 16-bit TIFFs are saved as 8-bit PNGs, and CMYK print files become RGB, which can shift colors.

Yes, when the TIFF has a real alpha channel, and soft edges keep their partial transparency too. PNG output never gets a white fill. In our test, a cut-out photo saved as TIFF kept every clear pixel after the switch to PNG.

Not yet. The converter saves page 1 only and shows no warning, so a three-page fax TIFF gives a single PNG. To get the other pages, split the file into one TIFF per page with another program, then add those here.

It depends on how the TIFF was compressed. An uncompressed 47.25 MB TIFF photo became a 7.21 MB PNG, but a 3.41 MB TIFF that used JPEG compression grew to 9.98 MB, because PNG stores every pixel exactly. For a small photo file, use TIFF to JPG.

For sharing scans, PNG is easier, since browsers open it and it stays lossless. Keep the TIFF when a print shop or archive asks for one, or when you need 16-bit color or CMYK, because this converter saves 8-bit RGB PNGs.

They convert well. A 1-bit fax-style TIFF becomes a 1-bit grayscale PNG, so the text stays crisp and the file stays small: our A4 page at 300 DPI went from 2.82 KB to 8.59 KB. The same page as a JPG was 83.62 KB.

Not by default. With Strip metadata on, the PNG loses the TIFF's color profile and DPI, so Adobe RGB photos can look duller. Switch Strip metadata off under Advanced and both are kept. TIFF to JPG keeps them even with the default setting.

Longer than a JPG. In our test of the same engine on a laptop, a 2400 x 1371 photo took about 9 seconds as PNG and a 16-megapixel photo about 52 seconds, while its JPG took about 2. Keep the tab open until the tile finishes.

No. The PNG is built by a worker running inside your browser tab, and the TIFF stays on your computer or phone. The page fetches its image engine, roughly 14 MB, on first use. We log simple usage numbers like editor time, but never files or file names.
