How do I save a GIF as a PNG?
Add the GIF to the box at the top of this page, keep PNG as the output and press Convert All, then save the file with its download button. It's free, needs no sign-up, and works the same for one GIF or fifty.
Can I convert GIF to PNG without losing quality?
Yes. PNG is lossless, so the PNG holds exactly the same pixels as the GIF's first frame; our pixel-by-pixel check found zero differences. The colors stay the GIF's own, up to 256, because a conversion can't add detail the GIF never had.
Does GIF to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent pixels in the GIF stay transparent in the PNG, and nothing is filled with white or black. GIF marks each pixel as fully clear or fully solid, so the PNG has the same hard edges; it does not add soft, feathered ones.
Can I convert an animated GIF to PNG and keep the animation?
No. A PNG made here is a still image of the first frame, and an amber note on the file warns you before you convert. APNG in the format menu also comes out still. To keep the motion, pick WebP or GIF from the menu instead.
How do I extract all frames from a GIF as PNG images?
This page can't do that yet. It saves one PNG per GIF, taken from the first frame, so a PNG sequence or a ZIP of every frame isn't possible. Several GIFs in one batch each give their own first-frame PNG.
Will the PNG be bigger than the GIF?
In our tests, no. Three still GIFs got 18% to 34% smaller as PNG with identical pixels. An animated GIF shrinks far more because the PNG keeps only one frame: a 10-frame, 510 KB GIF gave a 29 KB PNG.
What does the Compression setting do for PNG?
It sets how hard the PNG encoder works to pack the file. The picture never changes. The value starts at 90, which gave the smallest file in our test, so you can leave it alone.
Should I convert my GIF to PNG or JPG?
Choose PNG for logos, text, pixel art and anything with transparency, since it keeps exact pixels and clear areas. Choose JPG when a photo-like GIF needs the smallest file and slight blur doesn't matter. Both keep only the first frame.
Can I convert GIF to PNG in bulk?
Yes. Drop as many GIFs as you like at once, each up to 100 MB, with no daily cap. Download All puts two or more PNGs into one ZIP. GIFs added later with Add More Files start as JPG, so switch them back to PNG.
Is it safe to convert GIF to PNG online?
Yes. No account is needed and no watermark is added. Your GIFs become PNGs right in this browser tab, never on our servers, and the basic counts we keep, such as time in the editor, contain no file names or pictures.
