Will the PNG file be much larger than the original HEIC?
Yes — HEIC achieves extremely efficient compression using HEVC encoding. A 4 MB HEIC photo can expand to 15–25 MB as a lossless PNG. This size increase is the price of lossless quality. For everyday sharing, JPEG conversion is more practical; for editing, the larger PNG is worth it.
Does converting HEIC to PNG improve photo quality?
Conversion cannot add detail that the HEIC encoding didn't capture, but it does prevent any further quality loss. The PNG captures the HEIC image at maximum fidelity — subsequent edits and re-saves will not degrade the image the way repeated JPEG saves would.
Can I convert HEIC burst shots or Live Photos to PNG?
Live Photos consist of a still image and a short video. Our converter processes the still image component of a Live Photo and outputs it as PNG. Burst shots are multiple individual HEIC files — upload them one by one or in batch to convert each frame to PNG.
How do I get HEIC files off my iPhone to upload them?
On Mac: use AirDrop or Image Capture. On Windows: connect via USB cable — when prompted, choose 'Keep Originals' to preserve HEIC format. You can also share via iCloud Drive or email the file to yourself. Avoid using WhatsApp or social media to transfer, as those apps recompress images.
