Convert AVIF to PNG — Open Any AVIF Without Plugins

Turn modern AVIF images into universally editable PNG files instantly — full quality, transparency preserved, runs in your browser.

Why Convert AVIF to PNG?

AVIF is highly efficient for the web — PNG makes that content accessible in every editor and platform

Full Fidelity Decoding

AVIF pixel data is decoded at full quality and encoded as lossless PNG. No additional compression artifacts introduced — everything visible in the AVIF is captured exactly.

Universal Compatibility

AVIF still lacks support in many image editors, apps, and older systems. PNG opens everywhere — Photoshop, GIMP, Windows Explorer, macOS Preview, every browser and CMS.

Edit-Ready Format

PNG is the preferred format for editing. Converting from AVIF to PNG makes the image fully editable in any raster image editor without installing AVIF codec plugins.

When You Need AVIF Converted to PNG

Editing & Design Work

  • Convert AVIF images downloaded from modern websites to PNG for editing in Photoshop or Affinity
  • Convert AVIF screenshots or exports to PNG for import into design tools that lack AVIF support
  • Convert AVIF assets from CMS exports to PNG for client presentation decks

Development & Asset Pipelines

  • Convert AVIF assets to PNG for use in apps or platforms with limited AVIF codec support
  • Extract AVIF images from web archives to PNG for documentation or reporting
  • Convert AVIF thumbnails to PNG for legacy systems that require standard image formats

Compatibility & Archiving

  • Convert AVIF web images to PNG for long-term archiving in formats with guaranteed future support
  • Convert AVIF files to PNG before importing into older photo management software
  • Convert AVIF images from browsers to PNG for embedding in Office or Google Workspace documents

How to Convert AVIF to PNG

1

Upload your AVIF image — drag & drop directly onto the converter or click to browse your files. You can batch-convert multiple AVIF files at once by dropping them all simultaneously. Static AVIF images are fully supported, up to 50 MB per file, with zero server uploads.

2

The tool decodes your AVIF using WebAssembly at full quality — including any alpha transparency — and prepares a lossless PNG output. HDR AVIF content is tone-mapped to standard dynamic range during the conversion so the PNG displays correctly across all devices and applications.

3

Download your PNG instantly — lossless, fully editable, and compatible with every application from Photoshop to Windows Explorer. For batch conversions, all PNG files are packaged into a ZIP archive for one-click download. No data is ever uploaded to any server.

AVIF to PNG — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about converting AVIF images to PNG format.

What is AVIF and why can't I open it everywhere?

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a next-generation image format with exceptional compression efficiency — smaller than WebP and JPEG at equivalent quality. However, it's relatively new and lacks native support in many image editors, older operating systems, and non-web applications. Converting to PNG gives you the content in a universally supported format.

Does converting AVIF to PNG lose quality?

The PNG step itself is lossless — no quality is added or lost by the PNG encoding. However, if the source AVIF used lossy compression, any existing artifacts are captured in the PNG as-is. You cannot recover detail that the original AVIF compression already discarded.

Will AVIF transparency convert to PNG correctly?

Yes. AVIF supports full alpha-channel transparency, and PNG also supports alpha. The conversion preserves all transparent and semi-transparent pixels exactly.

Will the PNG be larger than the AVIF?

Significantly larger, yes. AVIF achieves excellent compression by discarding redundant data. PNG stores all pixel data losslessly, making it much larger. A 100 KB AVIF might become a 2–4 MB PNG — this is expected and reflects the difference in format goals.

Does the converter support all AVIF variants?

Standard static AVIF files are fully supported. AVIF image sequences (animated AVIF) may extract the first frame only. HDR AVIF content will be tone-mapped to standard dynamic range in the PNG output.

Is my AVIF file uploaded to a server?

No. All AVIF decoding and PNG encoding happens locally in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
